Congolese collar (1) formed from a link in the anchor chain of an early trade ship, likely from Portuguese traders. The metal is bronze, perhaps used for its greater resistance to salt water corrosion. Engraved design on edges. Only the most prestigious, high ranking royalty and warriors would have owned or worn such a piece. Used as a display of wealth. Circa 18th century or before. Very rare.
