A large openwork pack basket, Paiute, Central California/Nevada. A burden basket of substantial size, willow warp, peeled willow wefts, bent willow rod and wire overcast rim, coarse reinforced twining mended with cloth string. Basket has fine patina of wear as a native utility pack vessel, with some breaks, and damage to the cone start. Another large, rare California basket, full of spirit, of a type overlooked by most early collectors. From the Wright Family Collection, for whom Wrightwood, California, is named. Circa 1900.
