A Conversation With Michael And Greg Hamson Part II.
On March 24, 2021 we had the pleasure of having an in-depth video conversation at the Palos Verdes Gallery of Oceanic Art dealer Michael Hamson, and his brother Greg. We discussed their more than fifty extended trips to some of the most remote areas of Papua New Guinea, and their pioneering methods of field collecting.
On January 23, 2022 Greg passed away after a brave year long battle with cancer. We are grateful that we had the opportunity to record some of Greg’s insights and experiences, and share his wit and humanity with all.

“The area had a lot of crocodiles and then had a big rainstorm. The rivers overflowed into all the regular flat areas, so whatever flat area you were in now had the crocodiles. Now the water was 3 or 4 ft deep and that chocolate brown color where you couldn’t see anything. You were trying to avoid walking through the water, and follow tree trunks, but occasionally you had to.”
