New Guinea Kambot Canoe

Superb old wooden canoe, the exterior carved with intricate abstract motifs and totemistic figures. Kambot Village, New Guinea, circa 1945-1960. Fantastic example of a culture's commitment to aesthetic in an object which if not early collected would have quickly been swallowed up by tropical waters. Very good condition with expected wear. Indigenous repair to crack at one end.

Length: 312 cm / 123 in
