Pre-Columbian West Mexico, Lord In Canopy

A superb ancient ceramic depicting a Colima Lord in his canopy. A great dignitary, with medallions at his chest, epaulettes at his shoulders, and an elaborate headdress surveys the scene through enormous eyes from his covered litter. Canopy has 4 legs. A small sculpture which looks great from front and back and speaks volumes of Colima, W. Mexico culture. Late Preclassic- circa 300-100 BC, Tuxcacuesco-Ortices sub-style. For further information on this special genre see "Anecdotal Sculpture of Ancient West Mexico", Hasso von Winning, Los Angeles, 1972.
