Jan Haag

(B. 1933 Marysville, WA) is a poet, documentary film maker and mixed media artist who founded the Directing Workshop for Women at the American Film Institute, which brought many women into the director's chair for the first time.

Between 1975 and 2008 Haag created 23 contemporary canvases using needlepoint. These canvases have been exhibited in museum and international shows, and reflect Haag's extensive, and sometimes esoteric knowledge of dozens of cultures and countries she visited, often traveling as a pilgrim on foot.

Some of the canvases required several years to complete.
